STAFF BLOG: What We're Reading? Sarah Knight Books
Posted By: Kimberly | Posted On:
Recently, I’ve been obsessed with anything from Sarah Knight. In particular, I’m enjoying two of her bestselling books, The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck and Get Your Shit Together. Sarah considers herself to be an ‘anti-guru’ and her No Fucks Given Guides series are hysterical (and practical) parodies of self-help guides that actually do motivate you to get your life together once and for all.
Sarah Knight spent fifteen years working in New York City as an editor before she re-evaluated her life (and her fucks) and quit her career to move to a tropical island (seriously!) Her profound (and profane) guides help you better understand a variety of topics such as casting off unwanted obligations, making big life decisions, and being your true self.
A Guide to Marie Kondo Lifestyle
The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck is a guide to Marie Kondo-ing your life. I’ve already jumped on the Kondo bandwagon and tidied up my sock drawer, but I still didn’t feel like I was managing my life the best I could. That’s where Sarah Knight comes in. Your life is just a bigger version of your sock drawer. You simply need to get rid of anything that doesn’t “spark joy.” Sarah teaches us to tidy up our fuck drawers. We all have only a limited number of fucks to give and it’s up to you to decide who and what is worth it. Learn how to create a “fuck budget” and divvy up your fucks for your things, work, friends, and family on what makes you feel best.
The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck will teach you how to stop spending time you don’t have with people you don’t like doing things you don’t want to do.
Let Sarah Guide You
Get Your Shit Together came to me in the middle of an anxiety-induced breakdown. Like many, I tried to take on too much too quickly without thinking about my own needs. This unsustainable behavior inevitably led to burnout. I needed Sarah Knight’s smack in the face. I needed a solid plan to help me get my shit together. According to Sarah, the book was designed to “help you get out of your own way, and stay out. And it will liberate you from the shit you think you should be doing so you can bang out the shit you need to do, and get started on the shit you want to do” (from author’s note).
This book helps you break your life into manageable chunks and prioritize what’s really important to you. Sarah guides you through dealing with the small shit (the day-to-day minutia) and the tough shit (like getting older and planning ahead for your best life) so you can tackle the deep shit (like managing your mental health and making big life changes). This book is the perfect way to learn how to stop worrying about what you should do so you can finish what you need to do and start doing what you want to do.
Other books of Sarah Knight:
- Fuck No! (The definitive guide to saying no without being an asshole.)
- Calm the Fuck Down (The no-fucks-given guide to taming anxiety and taking control of your life.)
- You Do You (The guide to being yourself and letting your freak flag fly.)
