Writing Contests

City Limits is proud to host the following writing contests! We have open writing contests for the year 2021. Now accepting submissions for poetry, short story, and novel!

New Beginnings and Fresh Starts Poetry Contest

Everyone deserves a fresh start and most of us get one every year when the temperatures begin to rise, the grass gets a little bit greener, and flowers begin to bloom. Spring is the great new beginning we all hope for after a long winter. For our latest competition, we want to read your poetry about Spring, new beginnings, and all of the wonders nature has to offer during this transitional period.

All About You – Memoir Competition

Everyone has a story to tell. Whether it be of sadness or inspiration, there is so much to be learned through the experiences of others. These are stories we want to read and share with the world. We’re proud to announce our first ever All About You Memoir Competition. We’re giving you the opportunity to share your story and spread your truth.

Poetry of the Wanderer – Travel Poetry Competition

Travel is meant to inspire us. Some of the best works of literary art were written on great journeys and adventures. Now it’s time to show the world what you’ve experienced on your treks to lands unknown. We’re looking for your best travel and adventure poetry. Did you learn a valuable life lesson? Reconnect with the Earth? Find new friends? Form new bonds? We want to hear your travel poetry stories!

Wanderlust Travel Stories – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly Short Story Competition

Who doesn’t love to travel? We’re looking to hear your best and worst travel short stories! They can be true stories or completely fictional (please notate if it’s a true story). Maybe you’ve had a disaster home rental experience, or you were detained at the Canadian border for 6 hours because you jokingly said you were there for free healthcare and maple syrup (a true story from one of our staffers!), or maybe you fell in love for 6 wonderful days on a cruise. Whatever your travel short story is, we want to hear it!

Horror Shorts Contest

A scary story told by the fire, or read under the blanket with a flashlight, a sleepless night tossing and turning thinking every sound is a monster under the bed… These are the memories of our childhood after watching and listening to the scariest stories!
